The Dog Pound - Who Suffered The Backlash?

Well, it has been nearly a month, but ladies and gentlemen...the Dog Pound has returned. There's a lot that went on that contributed to me not writing for a decent while. One, the WWE just came off their biggest PPV and seemed to lose some steam; thus there wasn't much grabbing my attention enough to write about it. Add that to my already insane senior year of college, and you have a lapse in writing. NO MORE! The Dog Pound is back, and right now I want to talk with you about Backlash; one PPV that I believe came off extremely well just twenty-four hours ago.

In the grand scheme of things, it really didn't look like there was much on the card. Where was CM Punk? Morrsion/Miz? Kendrick/London? Or even Rhodes/Holly? The WWE could have easily added at least ONE tag match to the card, I mean they DO have tag team champions right? Overall though, I thought the card lacked something, what exactly, I do not know.

Kane defeated Chavo to retain the ECW title. I like this a lot. I like the fact that one, Kane is finally getting a chance to shine with a major title, even if it is the ECW title. Two, I enjoy how the WWE has given solid focus on Chavo as well. In my opinion, these are two guys that have given 100% to the WWE for as long as they have been there, and to have their program continue has been fresh and new. The one drawback, the ECW title is still looked at as somewhat meaningless. Perhaps in time, the WWE will see how much the fans are behind Kane, and really make it something.

The 12-Diva tag match was okay, but in my opinion I would have much rather seen a Woman's Title match. I mean when Mickie James won the title, it was made into a big deal (which was a good thing) but then just as quickly, it seemed to drop from focus. Instead, the WWE went with the whole gang-warfare with all the faces versus all the heels. In the end, I really don't think it matters all that much because Beth and Mickie will continue their thing and everyone else is just an addition for right now.

Big Show taking on the Great Khali, I'll be honest, came off better than I expected. Over the course of time I have come to accept Khali as a wrestler. Even though he can't move with the best of them, he does tend to give all he can. Depending on the people he works with (ex, Cena) he can come across not half bad. So, except the fact that Big Show tends to bore me, the match was okay.

Undertaker and Edge put on another solid match last night. Undertaker retained as expected. I believe these two men have some of the best in-ring chemistry I have seen in awhile, so considering they have had an extended program it was a good thing to see. Hopefully Undertaker is able to have a lengthy run with the title this time around, and I would love to see Edge take the belt back a few months from now.

Matt Hardy is FINALLY the United States Champion! The biggest victory in his career, and Matt Hardy is now ready to begin perhaps the biggest singles run of his career as well. I believe that this should be the end of their program too. The question is, who is next for Hardy to face? Perhaps a draft will bring some more talent over, like Carlito, Santino, or even bring Kennedy back to Smackdown.

The big match of the night, Fatal-4-Way for the WWE title! Can you believe John Cena didn't win! I was hoping that Orton would retain the title for at least one more month, thus solidifying his win at Wrestlemania. However, Triple H would have been my next choice. The question I would ask now is, what can the WWE do with HHH as champ? He has beaten just about everyone there is on Raw, so what's left. From the fan standpoint, I would love to see HHH take on the "tweener" Chris Jericho!

At the end of the day, it appears as though the "Age of Orton" is over, and the reign of the "King of Kings" begins for the twelfth time. Where will HHH go? Could we see the new "King" William Regal challenge for the title? Whatever happens, the latest reign of HHH should be very interesting.

Thus ends the latest edition of The Dog Pound. I apologize to anyone who had been waiting for a long time. I hope to return on a more consistent basis now, so my question to all of you...ARE YOU READY?!
